Stop off point - Cafe at Crich

Added interest to this walk is a train journey one way either at the begining to get you to Ambergate or at the end to get you to Matlock. This all depends on where you want to park your car.

After you get off the train walk back along the platform and cross over the the track on the official crossing, then walk along the path towards the cable cars.

1.  Just before you reach the cable cars entrance, take the first path on the right which goes through a squeeze stile and up a hill.

Part way up this path look out for a waymark sign on the right. Take this Tarmac path which goes down slightly then up the hill at the other side. Eventually emerging on a main road near a bus stop.

Turn left here and at the end of the back railings take the steps on the right side of the road. This joins up on the corner of another road turn right here and walk up hill

2. On a right hand bend go straight on here taking the path at the side of Falconcroft house. Go through squeeze stile on left wall and cary on straight ahead.

3. Go through the gap in the wall and follow waymark signs and the stone path up hill

4. Go through the wooden Squeeze stile. Observing the excellent views from these high points.

5. Carry on up the hill and go through the squeeze stile on the edge of Riber Castle grounds.

6. Follow this path which takes you past the entrance to Riber Castle and walk down the road. At the road jusnction at the bottom turn right and cross the road Go over the stile near the gate on the left. Following the sigh for public footpath to Tansley.

7. Go through the stile on the left wall and walk down the field with the wall on the right hand side go through the squeeze stile at the bottom and turn right down the single track.

Go past the house at the bottom following the marker on the wooden pilon.

8. Past the house go over the sile and walk down the narrow field.

Go through the squeeze stile at the end and go down the next field keeping the wall on the right hand side.

Go through 3 more squeeze stiles Accross a field and through another squeeze stile in the right hand wall to join up with a main road.

9. Turn Left here and walk down the road. At a road junction which has a sign for Hotel and wildelife park and tansley and Matlock turn right here until you reach a left hand bend just before a small wood.

Turn right here to go down a public bridleway.

10.  Part way down here go through the Squeeze stile on the left and walk accross to the right hand corner go over the stile and follow the right hand wall go over several more stiles taking you past a caravan park to join a road at Dethick.

11. Go straight over the road following an access road to farm buildings. Turn right here taking the path past a church. In the church grounds go through the swing gate and head down the hill to cross a stile near a gate.

Go straight ahead here up the hill (do not take the path on the right near the wall) Go over the stile in the trees and follow the path down through the wood.

cross the bridge and follow the path up the other side to join Lea main road.

12. Cross over here and walk up past Nook cottage Turn left and follow the footpath sign over a stile go diagonally right to cross 2 squeeze stiles close together then go straight on through the squeeze stile in the left wall.

Go right then Left through another stile signed Wake Bridge.

Cross the field to a white wall cross the stile and keep going straight ahead.

Go through another 5 stiles to arive at a road.

Turn left and then look out on the right hand wall for a small stile go through here and head for the middle of the left wall. go through a gap in the wall and through a field to a squeeze stile go through the next field to a squeeze stile in the top right corner carry on in same direction heading for the middle of a line of treesgo through a squeeze stile and follow the arrow markers. go straight ahead to a stile in a wall. Walk ahead to the left of a wire fence cross the stile in the corner and and follow the wall on the right Cross another stile to join a main road. 

13. Turn right to go past Shuckstone farm. Go through the squeeze stile on the right signposted Public footpath go up the hill and cross a stile heading towards Crich stand.

14. at the bottom right corner of the field go through the squeeze stile by a gate and veer right and go over another stile by a gate turn left at a farm track to arive at a main road. Turn Right on the road down to a left hand bend.

Go straight ahead here following the sign for public footpath. Cary on past a house until you reach a wooden sign on the left signed 'Public footpath to crich 1 mile' Turn left at this sign and go straight ahead through a gap in the hedge go through the gate entrance to join a tractor track.

15. Keep going straight ahead through fields heading towards the church go through a squeeze stile onto a road and cross straight over through another squeeze stile carry on in the same direction to go through a squeeze stile in the corner.

If you are ready for a break here turn left on the road and opposite the junction is an excellent cafe.

16. To carry on with the walk immediately turn left after the last squeeze stile and go through another Squeeze stile heading towards the church.

Go through 2 more squeeze stiles and a swing gate sign posted 'Rohs lane 1/4 mile' Go through the church yard and another swing gate onto a small access road go straight over and through a squeeze stile Go through the squeeze stile at the edge of the field cross another field to join a tractor track go through a squeeze stile past some houses to join a main road.

Turn left down hill and at a bus stop sign turn right to go over a stile into a field. Cross the field to a squeeze stile and cross the next through a gap in a hedge to a squeeze stile by a gate.

17. Walk ahead to the end of trees and go through a stile on the right hand side go straight ahead to the bottom of the field and another stile by a gate immediately go through another stile on the left and turn left to go through trees. At the best opportunity enter the field on the left and walk along the edge to the end of the wooded area. Carry on straight ahead through the squeeze stile on the left corner. Walk down the field keeping the hedge on the left and go over the stile in the wall turn right through another stile and then Left on Dimple lane.

18. Follow the sign on the right 'Public footpath to Fritchley 1/2 mile' cross a bridge and follow the path over a stile head up the field and go through a squeeze stile over an old bridge and then over the style on the left just over the bridge. go over the stile near houses and head up Kirkham lane to the main road turn right and at the green go straight over up Allen lane.

At the junction with Bullbridge hill go straight over the junction and down the green lane opposite. Go through a stile and at a junction of paths take the left path heading down hill with a stone wall on the left. Ignore any paths to left or right and carry on straight ahead until you reach the main A610 road, turn right here and just before the bridge turn left up Station road to Ambergate train station car park which is your destination.
