Stop off point - Numerous cafe's and Pubs around Bakewell SK

Village.
1. Start from
the Peak
Village car park and exit at
the far side walking past the Grouse and Claret Pub. Turn right on the A6
and then take the 1st road on the right.
After a short distance Turn right signposted Carlton Lees. Go under the
bridge and follow this track for approx 1 mile where you emerge into a
field, carry on straight ahead keeping the Stone wall on your left. Go
over the Style by the gate and through the wooded area.
2. Go over the
next Stile and bear left keeping the river Derwent to your right,
3. Head for
the Gate at the far side and keep going straight ahead following the
Footpath signs. At the top go over the Stile and turn Right keeping the
wall on your right
4. Go over The
next Stile near buildings and follow the Heritage way sign down the
road.
5. At the road
Junction Facing turn Left onto the Public Bridleway. Follow this for
approx 0.7 mile. A bend and Steep incline brings you to an Old barn go
through the gate and up through the Woods Go through another gate into a
Field where you need to turn Right Following the Track. (It may be
possible to cut across to join the next track left but we always stick to
the defined tracks)
6. Heading
towards a Barn you come across a sign post where you then need to turn
Left following a Grassy tractor track.
7. Go over the
Stile or through the gate if open and carry on straight ahead. Don't miss
the stunning views around this area.
At the top go over the stile on the left, Past the Pond and over the
next Style. At this Junction of paths take the path directly opposite and
Down the Hill with Bakewell Facing.
8. Go through
the small gate in to a Wood and follow the steep path down hill, after
crossing a small Stream and at T junction path Turn Right
passing over another small stream. Immediately turn Left going down
hill following a stoney path.
Follow this path to emerge at Bakewell Golf course Go straight ahead
ringing the Bell on the way
and go down the Fenced path pictured No 8.
Go over a Stone
Bridge and through a metal
gate. Over the next Stile and follow the path down with the wall on the
left.
Go through a swing gate and down a tarmac path joining a road at the
bottom.
Turn Right to join a large bridge go over this where you end
up in Bakewell town.
9. Ideal for a tea stop or
just a sit on one of the many benches by the
river.
Don't forget to buy a traditional Bakewell
pudding
10. Heading
back we now need to follow the river South, keeping the river on the left
go through the park and through the Kids play area to join up with the
main A6, Turn Left here heading back towards Rowsley and continue down to
the right hand bend.
Just before the bend Find a safe pace to cross and walk up the Dead end
road opposite on the right.
11. Go up the
hill and just past the house on the left go over the Stile. Walking
straight ahead keep the hedge on the left and go through the swing gate
into a wood.
12. Through
the next swing gate into a field go straight ahead aiming for the left
side of a small wood. Cross the Bridge and go through the small
gate.
Head up the hill keeping the Wood on your right.
13. At the end
of the wood do not turn right but carry on up the hill and through the
small gate. Go straight ahead up the hill aiming to the left of
a clump of trees. After passing through the opening in the fence turn left
and go through the gate and squeeze stile in the wall. Head in the
direction of the radio mast on the far hill opposite.
14. On
reaching a sign for Haddon Hall and Youlgreave go straight on through the
squeeze stile in the wall.
Head to the right of a clump of trees where you will find a gate go
through this gate keeping the trees on your left. Go over the wall Stile
Pic 14 and follow the path through trees joining the Quarry access
road.
15. Keep the
Quarry on the right and walk down the road to join up with Alport lane.
Cross over the road and head towards Ashbourne on the B5056. Just past the
gate on the left take the public Footpath and go up numerous steps to a
style at the top.
16. Go through
the stile and veer slight left and up hill Go Straight ahead through the
opening and follow the clear path lined by trees either side. Just
past a gate on the right go over a stile and walk diagonally across the
field heading for a Building on the far side. Go over the stile on the
left of a gate and then turn left up the road. Go past Park Farm on the
right and walk up through Stanton village.
17. Turn Left
at the Village Post office and shop and go past the C of E primary school.
Go through the gate at the end of the road and into a field keeping a wire
fence on the left. Go through an opening into the next field and head down
hill. In the left corner go through a small gate and follow the path down
hill.
18. Keep going
straight ahead passing through 4 wall openings.
Go over the Style under a large tree and carry on down hill to the
bottom right corner. Go through a Squeeze stile.
Go straight ahead crossing another stile to the left of a
gate.
Turn right an a small tarmac road going past Congreave farm B&B on
the right
19. Turn Left
Just past farm buildings on the Left and go through the Squeeze
stile. Follow the path round the hill and go through the small gate at the
bottom right corner near trees.
Immediately go through the next gate on the right through a small wood
and into open fields.
20. Go
straight ahead following a line of trees on the right. Join up with a
grassy path heading downhill. At the end of this path go through the small
gate onto the road and turn left. With the river Wye on the left go over a
bridge and past Cauldwell's mill. At the main A6 turn Right where you will
find the Grouse and Claret and peak village car park.
